Picking out a tree to cut down to put in my living room for a month is kind of a weird tradition I will admit but at the same time I love having a pine tree in my house! It smells so good and brings back so many great memories!
Tychon picked a beautiful Grand Fir that fits perfectly in the only open corner we have for it. We decorate it like a giant candy cane with red and white. When I was little I remember my Grandma had a special room in her house that she would put her Christmas tree. It was decorated completely in pink. To each their own and we choose red and white.
The tree farm we go to is not far from our house and Santa is there in the little wooden for the kids to visit after they are finished cutting down their tree. We came to the same place last year and it was so funny to hear what Tychon had to say to Santa! Tychon had never met Santa before last year and he was not debriefed about what to talk to him about. I have not idea what was going through his head about why we were visiting him and what to say to him. Santa started to ask him if he would like him to bring some toys this year like a truck or something and Tychon said "no thanks I already have one of those" Santa kept giving suggestions only to be rejected by Tychon perfectly content knowing he already has those toys.
This year was a little different because he now knows what Santa does and he had a few suggestions for him this year. A spider web shooter I believe. They were having a dandy conversation together when out of the blue Tychon says, "Hay did you come in my house when I was sleeping?" I got a real kick out of it!
Estee did not want anything to do with Santa!
Later Tychon had many questions about Santa like how he fits down the chimney and how his reindeer fly. I am flying by the seat of my pants because originally we decided that we would not do Santa or hype up Christmas because we wanted it to be centered around the true meaning of Christmas. But I will admit it is fun to have him so excited about it! I will let it go and clue him in when he is really asking.
I love Christmas time! It is filled with so much excitement, hope and spirit! I love developing our own family traditions that bring us close together!

What cute pictures! That is so cute about Tychon! Yes, it is wonderful to celebrate the birth of Christ, but it is also really special to have the spirit of Santa as well. It is something magical I think! There is a fine line between celebrating the birth of Christ, and going overboard with gifts from Santa. So, you just gotta know where that line is. I have ALWAYS gone overboard, but I told the kids this year that Santa is only bringing 4 gifts because we are really going to focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Brayden has been going around to ANYONE telling them, "I know why we celebrate Christmas... Because it is Jesus' birthday!" Cute huh? I love you guys! Give the kids hugs from US! I really miss you.
how cute. tychon saying that was the funniest thing! the whole santa claus thing is tricky for us too. like what shana said, i just don't make a big deal out of it. santa is a fun part of Christmas, so on the upside we make a big deal out of the real meaning of Christmas.
